Chinese scientists create ‘robot’ pigeonBeijing March 20. (PTI): Chinese scientists have transformed a normal pigeon into a “robot bird” which can be deployed for a number of uses including national defence state media reported. Scientists in Qingdao city in east China’s Shandong Province implanted electrodes in the brain of the pigeon to control its behaviour and flight remotely by electrical stimulation. “The electric stimulation is precisely controlled by computer programmes” said Su Xuecheng director of the project from Shandong University of Science and Technology. So far scientists are able to order the pigeon to perform many complicated tasks like “take-off” and “landing” as well as turning right and left during flight. Robot birds will be put in use for rescue photography mapping and even national defence Xinhua news agency said.

The trend for eating natural food and for foodie adventurousness is spurring the revival… Haunch of venison the leg is very similar to a leg of lamb” he said. The research has implications for wildlife conservation in an area of high rates of forest loss from agricultural conversion and logging. Examining diet composition and fruit availability for 23 frugivorous bird species (pigeons parrots hornbills and passerines) in two lowland rain forests on Sulawesi Jonathan S. Walker of the University of Manchester found that figs (Ficus species) comprised 57% of all fruit-eating records. Walker’s results are consistent with studies from other parts of the world that have found figs supply a disproportionate amount of sustenance for fruit-eating animals. “Certain fruit species are particularly important either because they dominate the diets of bird species.
